Abstract

The presence of a chronic disease constitutes a vulnerability for the sick person, and for their caregiver a feeling of lack of control and emotional and physical impact, resulting in overload. Objective: To identify the findings related to the perceived social support and the care burden of the family caregiver of the cancer patient in studies published during the period 2015 to 2021. Methods: A systematic literature review, through the equation: (Social Support) AND (family caregivers) AND (burden of disease) OR (Caregiver burden) AND (neoplasia), in Spanish, English and Portuguese, in MedLine, Sciencedirect, Sage Journal and Academic Search Complete databases. Results: A total of 29,396 articles were obtained, of which 23 were selected after applying the filters and the eligibility criteria established by the researchers. Conclusions: Caregiver perceived distress reflects moderate social support and increased burden. The accompaniment of support groups for the caregiver and caregiving subject, allow them to share, feel accepted, strengthen physical and mental health, and reduce distress and emotional exhaustion.
