Abstract

Palm oil in Colombia is a well-known product throughout its history with a history of more than 60 years of
production, it has also had diversification in different ecosystems in the region, to be exact it has 21 producing
departments throughout from the different regions of the country, since it can grow in a wide variety of soils
and climates, its yield is very high compared to other oil crops. The objective was to study “palm oil production
trends in Colombia as an approach to competitiveness.” Using a descriptive, qualitative methodology. Where
it was obtained as a result that, currently, the production of palm oil faces one of its main challenges, which is
to improve its productive competitiveness, creating the need to look for new strategies that allow improving its
product productivity as well as quality; This allows the increase of standards in the face of new international
market niches in order to generate added value in other products derived from oil. Taking into account other
important aspects, it is concluded that care for the environment and sustainability through policies that promote
responsible and sustainable production, obtaining economic growth while maintaining the conservation and
well-being of the communities in the region.
