Abstract

Hope is a multidimensional construct, guided by the individual's motivational and cognitive attributes; it is an intrinsic dimension in the care of cancer patients in different clinical practice environments. This analysis aims to reflect on the construct of hope in patients with advanced cancer, supported by the stages of the experience reflection cycle (description; feelings; evaluation; analysis; action plan and conclusions). In different care contexts, we are faced with patients who are unaware of the stage of advanced cancer and the goals of treatment. This situation results in multiple biases, exacerbated hope or unrealistic cure and increases psycho-emotional suffering. Comprehensible communication promotes quality survival, self-transcendence and peaceful death. To (not) conclude, understanding the human experience of people with cancer and qualitative communication must be the basis to guide the care plan in promoting hope beyond the advanced disease, since hope is something positive and essential for salutogenesis.

Doutorando do Programa de Pós Graduação em Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Paraná (inicio em 2021). Mestre em Enfermagem pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2018). Especialização em Terapia Intensiva (2013) e Terapias Integrativas e Complementares (2021) pela Universidade Positivo. Graduação e Licenciatura em Enfermagem pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2010). Membro do Grupo de Pesquisa GEMSA (Grupo de Estudo Multiprofissional em Saúde do Adulto). Atualmente é Professor Assistente na Universidade Positivo e membro da equipe de Enfermagem na Quimioterapia de Alto Risco do Complexo Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná (CHC-UFPR).
