The evolution of consumer cooperatives in Colombia within a framework of internationalization

Tras el análisis reflexivo de dos investigaciones sobre las políticas públicas en el sector de cooperativas de consumo 1980 – 2010 e internacionalización cooperativa: condiciones y lineamientos para su desarrollo en Colombia, se analizan algunos elementos que coadyuvaron el desenlace económico de las cooperativas de consumo en el mercado colombiano.
El objetivo de dicho análisis es identificar los factores que más han incidido en la articulación de las cooperativas de consumo en los mercados, su presencia sectorial y los elementos a tener en cuenta en una posible promoción a futuro. Lo anterior, en el marco de un proceso de replanteamiento del rol de las cooperativas de consumo como articuladoras de bienestar social, cohesión y generación de mercados en escenarios de postconflicto.
Como hallazgos se destaca que:
Internamente el grueso de cooperativas de consumo fueron incapaces para adaptarse a la dinámica de un mercado innovador y la entrada de hipermercados y de cajas de compensación, fomentadas por el Estado, desplazaron a esta opción de organización del consumo.
En estas estructuras la ausencia de generación de escalas vía integración generaron una excesiva orientación a terceros que no brindaba incentivos a los asociados.
