Simulation of seismic damage scenario in San José de Cúcuta, Colombia
Simulación de escenario de daño sísmico en San José de Cúcuta, Colombia
Main Article Content
In this work, the probable damage scenario produced by seismic effects upon buildings in an urban sector of the city of San José de Cúcuta has been investigated. To do so, a method based on assigning a value related to the qualification of eleven variables which include key structural aspects to compute the vulnerability index related to two maximum acceleration scenarios in rock is applied. As a result, global data are displayed using a geographic information system. Such graphic representation shows that a high percentage of one to three story buildings have damage indices that forecast medium and severe damage. Therefore, it is highly probable that buildings made of unconfined masonry and reinforced concrete moment-resistant frames that have less than four levels must be subjected to structural reinforcement or other actions tending to reduce structural vulnerability.
