Rural schools as a strategy for knowledge transfer
Escuelas rurales como estrategia para la transferencia de conocimiento
Main Article Content
Background: Rural schools are increasingly being recognized as hubs for community innovation and resilience. Through education, these schools can act as catalysts for rural development. Objective: To explore the role of rural schools as a strategy for knowledge transfer through a bibliometric review approach. Methods: By analyzing scientific publications from 2013 to 2024, key trends and challenges in implementing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in rural contexts, as well as educational innovations for community development, are identified. The review is organized along various dimensions: temporal, thematic, geographical, and impact, allowing for a comprehensive examination of how rural schools can serve as centers of innovation and development for their communities. Results: The study highlights significant barriers, such as the digital divide and cultural hurdles, that need to be overcome to maximize the positive impact of these institutions on rural development. Additionally, the opportunities offered by ICT to enhance education quality and facilitate the creation of knowledge networks that can support sustainability and economic growth in rural areas are underscored. Conclusions: The synergy between innovation and education in rural areas represents a promising path towards educational equity and comprehensive development of rural communities. Using rural schools as centers of community innovation represents a holistic and transformative strategy that not only enriches the educational process but also generates a positive impact on the economic, social, and environmental development of rural communities.
